Few crackers thrill a crowd like rockets crackers, which streak skyward on a trail of fire before bursting with a bang or a shower of colour. Rockets are also the variety that demands the most care, because they leave the ground and travel. This Vedizone guide covers every popular rocket type, exactly how to launch one safely, and the wind, clearance and timing rules that keep your Diwali trouble-free.
Types of rockets and what they do
- Lakshmi rockets are the classic choice, rising fast and ending in a loud report — the traditional celebratory bang.
- Whistling rockets add a rising whistle as they climb, ending in a burst, and are a big hit with children (from a safe distance).
- Colour rockets trade the bang for a bloom of red, green, blue or silver stars at the top.
- Bullet rockets are smaller, faster and sold in bundles for rapid, repeated launches.
Choosing rockets for your show
| Rocket | Main effect | Noise level | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lakshmi rocket | High rise, loud report | High | Traditional celebration |
| Whistling rocket | Whistle then burst | Medium-high | Fun family moments |
| Colour rocket | Colour star burst | Low-medium | Visual displays |
| Bullet rocket | Quick repeated launches | Medium | Rapid sequences |
How to launch a rocket safely
- Use a sturdy glass or plastic bottle, or a fixed metal pipe, as a launch tube on flat, open ground.
- Drop the rocket stick fully in so the rocket points straight up, never at an angle toward houses or people.
- Weigh the bottle down or bury the pipe so recoil cannot tip it over.
- Light the fuse with a long incense stick and step back at least 5 metres immediately.
- Never lean over the rocket, and never relight a dud — soak it in water after a few minutes.
Wind, clearance and open sky
Rockets are the one cracker where the sky above matters as much as the ground below. Launch only in open areas with clear sky overhead, well away from balconies, trees, electrical wires, thatched roofs and parked vehicles. Check the wind first: a strong breeze can push a rocket sideways into a building, so avoid launching in gusty conditions. Keep a bucket of water and a bucket of sand within reach at all times. Legality, timing and buying right
Under the 2018 Supreme Court order, crackers may be burst only during permitted hours, typically 8pm to 10pm on Diwali, and only certified fireworks are allowed, so always check your state and city rules. The same order is why buying is enquiry-based rather than instant online sale. With Vedizone you pick rockets from the price list, confirm over WhatsApp, complete payment by UPI or bank transfer, and receive delivery pan-India by registered transport. New to this? Our how to buy crackers online in India legally guide explains the full process.
Buying direct from Sivakasi, which makes about 90% of India's fireworks, means Vedizone rockets cost far less than retail — often 30–70% cheaper. Plan your 2026 sky show now: browse the price list and send your rocket enquiry to Vedizone today.
